About the Glamis Residents’ Association
Building a stronger community together
The Glamis Residents’ Association (GRA) is a registered charity (Charity No. 1148565) established in 2012. We are an independent, voluntary organisation run entirely by local residents for the benefit of everyone living on the Glamis Estate and the surrounding area.
Working alongside residents, East End Homes, Tower Hamlets Council and other local organisations, we aim to strengthen our community, encourage resident participation and support initiatives that improve life across the estate.
We are proudly non-political and non-religious, welcoming everyone regardless of age, disability, race, nationality, faith, gender, sexual orientation or background.

Our Mission
Our mission is simple:
To bring residents together, strengthen our community and improve the quality of life for everyone living on the Glamis Estate.
We achieve this by encouraging community participation, supporting local initiatives, managing Glamis Residents’ Hall and working collaboratively with our partners to help make the estate a welcoming, safe and vibrant place to live.
Our Charitable Objectives
The Association exists to:
Bring People Together
Encourage residents, statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and local groups to work together for the benefit of the community.
Improve Community Wellbeing
Support educational, recreational and social activities that improve quality of life for residents of all ages.
Manage Glamis Residents’ Hall
Maintain and develop Glamis Residents’ Hall as an accessible community facility for meetings, activities, events and local organisations.
Support Community Development
Promote projects and charitable initiatives that benefit residents across the Glamis Estate and the wider Tower Hamlets community.
What We Do
The Residents’ Association works to:
- Organise community meetings and events.
- Keep residents informed through newsletters, notices and meeting minutes.
- Encourage resident participation in local decisions.
- Support community projects and funding opportunities.
- Manage Glamis Residents’ Hall.
- Work constructively with East End Homes, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and other local partners.
What We Don’t Do
To help residents find the right support as quickly as possible, it’s important to understand the Residents’ Association's role.
We are not responsible for:
- Day-to-day housing management.
- Repairs or maintenance requests.
- Rent accounts or tenancy management.
- Emergency repairs.
- Anti-social behaviour investigations.
These services are provided by East End Homes and the relevant local authorities.
Where appropriate, we can help residents understand the correct reporting process or support them if they have exhausted the appropriate channels.
Our Trustees
The Glamis Residents’ Association is governed by a Board of Trustees, which is responsible for ensuring the charity operates in accordance with its charitable objectives.

About the Glamis Estate
Situated just off the historic Cable Street in Shadwell, the Glamis Estate has long been home to a diverse and close-knit community.
Developed during the post-war period, the estate combines low-rise homes, medium-rise apartment blocks and landmark tower buildings centred around shared green spaces and communal areas. In recent years, regeneration projects have helped modernise the estate while preserving its strong sense of community.
Its location beside the famous Cable Street places the estate within one of London’s most significant historic neighbourhoods, reflecting a long tradition of diversity, resilience and community spirit that continues today.
Looking Ahead
The Association is committed not only to supporting today’s residents but also to planning for the future.
Working with residents and partner organisations, we continue to explore opportunities for:
- Community improvements.
- Funding and grant opportunities.
